PERSONALITY

Maine Coons are typically sociable and tolerant, often forming strong bonds with their households. Many enjoy being near their people — following from room to room, greeting visitors with curiosity rather than shyness, and adapting well to routines that include children or other pets when introductions are managed thoughtfully.
They are not usually aloof. Vocal but rarely shrill, Maine Coons communicate with chirps and trills as much as meows. They appreciate interactive play, climbing structures and window perches, and respond well to gentle, consistent handling from an early age.

The Maine Coon's semi-long, water-resistant coat benefits from regular brushing — typically two to three sessions per week, increasing during seasonal shedding. A wide-toothed comb and slicker brush help prevent matting behind the ears, under the legs and along the ruff.
Routine care also includes nail trimming, ear checks and dental attention as advised by your veterinarian. A balanced, high-quality diet supports coat condition and joint health, which matters for a breed of this size.

During warmer months, keep indoor environments comfortable, avoid midday heat exposure, and maintain grooming to reduce loose undercoat. In air-conditioned homes, provide a warm bed or perch away from direct cold drafts.
